Q: Are you qualified to teach me and where did your qualifications come from?
Many styles of Martial Arts are break away groups from their original style and any qualifications achieved through these groups are frequently not recognised once you walk out the door. Find out where the instructor’s black belt came from….like The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF)….this is where Haktari Taekwondo gets their qualifications from.
Q: Do you have Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance?
Ask to see a copy of their current Certificate of Currency. Be sure you check the expiry date.
Q: Do you hold a National Coaching Qualification (NCAS)?
All Martial Arts Instructors should hold a Level 1 Coaching Accreditation with the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) in the martial art that they are teaching - request to see it.
Q: Is there participation insurance for me?
It is compulsory at Haktari that all students are insured. When you come in for your first lesson you will be given a quote on your insurance fee and asked to complete a form.
Q: At what age can I start classes?
At Haktari you can start training as early as 4 years old.
Q: Are there classes for my age group?
Haktari has classes which have been designed to cater for everyone, from childrens classes, to adult and family classes.
Q: How many classes should I be attending?
The more classes you attend the quicker you will develop the skills and techniques which are associated which Taekwondo.
Depending on your personal situation, you can attend once per week or twice a week, however, it is recommended that you attend twice a week as a minimum.
Q: Can I attend classes before I become a member?
You certainly can! Before joining Haktari you will receive one FREE trial lesson, all we ask is that for insurance purposes that you fill out an obligation free Haktari Membership Form for your safety. You can where a t-shirt and loose pants for comfort on your first night.
Q: Can I make up classes that I have missed for that term?
If during the Term a public holiday occurs or you are sick for example, than yes you can make up for that missed class within that same Term. It is the student’s responsibility to attend all classes. All missed classes can only be made up within the same Term.
Q: How do I pay?
Haktari is flexible with payments. We accept cash or cheques. Payment is made at the beginning of each Term. Haktari offers discounts to families of three or more that train with us. Training fees are not refundable once payment has been made.
Q: What about discounts for families?
At Haktari Taekwondo Academy we have discounts for families and you only pay for the classes you want to attend, our fees are set per term and we give discounts to 3 or more in the one family training as well as for the students that train in 2 or more lessons each week.
Q: Do I have to get a uniform and shoes straight away?
There is no reason why you need to buy a uniform or shoes immediately. When you join Haktari you will receive a new starter package that includes a uniform and belt. Shoes are optional, it is the students own personal choice if they wish to wear shoes at training. Uniforms and shoes can also be purchased from the Haktari office.
Q: How long before I can grade?
You must be a member and be training with Haktari for a minimum of one Term before you can be considered for your first grading with Haktari. This will give you enough time to learn the basic stances, punches and kicks of Taekwondo. Your instructor will advise you 2 weeks prior to grading if you are eligible to grade.
Q: When can I start participating in tournaments?
At Haktari, tournament fighters are selected from Fight class and invited to join the Haktari Team if the student and their parents are ok with this, Yellow Belt is the entry level into competition through to the elite Black Belt division’s. Tournaments are not only sparring based, they also consist of Poomsae (patterns), breaking and aerobic dance. To participate in sparring at tournaments you need to attend Sport Taekwondo Classes. If you are interested in participating in Poomsae (Patterns) let your instructor know so arrangements for additional Poomsae training can be made.
